Introduction

The dataserver enhances and complements the ADDS web site by providing flexible and queryable access to real-time METAR, PIREP, TAF and AIRSIGMET data.

This service is oriented towards automatic parsing and is an an ideal mechanism for users who consistently need access to raw data or those who need more control over the data than is currently available through the web pages.

Retrieving data is fairly flexible through the use of constraints. For example, the ADDS webpages only permit retrieval of METAR data based on station names, country/region codes, and time ranges. The dataserver gives users more control over the METAR data by employing combinations of station name contraints, time range constraints, longitude/latitude constraints and flight path constraints.

The dataserver is a beta product which is currently undergoing extensive testing and modifications. During this phase of development, numerous changes may occur resulting in the deactivation and activation of features. This is not an operational product and should not be used as such. Please read the Disclaimer.

NOTE: The ADDS database only retains the last three days of data

Release Procedures

Each release has its own URL on Experimental ADDS. There is a two-month window after each release to update parsers before the old version is removed. Old versions of releases are kept live for two months side-by-side with the new versions (with a separate path) to allow users/developers to update their parsers. For convenience, http://weather.aero/dataserver_current/ will always point to the most recent version of the server.

Please refer to Release Procedures for more details

Data product information

See each data source for examples. Please note that different browsers handle XML differently. Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox render it by default, whereas Safari, Konqueror, Opera and others do not. Be aware that Mozilla and Firefox can take a significant amount of time to render large XML files.

Please see the Summary of Constraints and Best Practices sections.
