If you would like to help shape the future of this site, please take a moment to
fill out this survey
(Reader required). Thanks.
- 12 October 2009
NCAR will be performing annual network maintenance on Saturday, October 17th
from 11:30 to 00:00 UTC. This may affect access to Experimental ADDS, so
please be prepared to consult an alternate source of weather during that time.
- 12 August 2009
Rearchitecture of the experimental ADDS web site is now complete. The new architecture is
efficient and scalable to support the many new products we are working on.
Thanks for your patience during the upgrade.
- 23 June 2009
A major rearchitecture of the experimental ADDS web site is currently being tested. The new
architecture should be much more responsive and will allow us to support many new products in
the future.
All of the features of the site should work as before, except the Java tools. Please exit and restart
any running sessions of the Flight Path Tool and HEMS Tool
to reload the latest working versions.

from the TAFs page. Behind the
scenes, new and improved decoding and storage software are used.
- Jun 2004
Users can now retrieve PILot REPorts (PIREPs) in raw text format using
a new interface on the PIREPs page. Behind the
scenes, new and improved decoding and storage software are used.

on the Icing page with forecasts out to roughly 12 hours.
- Mar 2004
Behind the scences, new and improved AIRMET and SIGMET decoding, storage, and
plotting software bring a new look to these graphics found on
the AIR/SIGMETs page.
- Sep 2003
Experimental ADDS becomes a separate site from
Operational ADDS
- Sep 2003
The original ADDS site has been transferred to the NWS Aviation Weather
Center for "OPERATIONAL" support.
- Aug 02, 2002
An enhanced PIREPs Java Tool
is now available. Domain selection has improved
and now extends to include Hawaii. An interactive Data Key is available and
the improved Report Data Selector provides a more intuitive means for selecting data
for display. The Report Data Selector also provides the user with
a way to display multilple hours worth of data.
- Jul 15, 2002
Experimental Forecast Icing
Potential (FIP) graphics have been added to the icing page
and the Flight Path Tool.

(convection) was fixed to show the 1-hour forecast polygons, past
performance polygons, and storm tops/motion.
- Feb 01, 2002
The software used to ingest, process, and display METARs data has been
drastically improved. A number of corrections were made to the
METARs Java Tool as well
as the static GIF graphics. Also, the form to retrieve "raw"
and "translated" METARs is entirely new. Performing this upgrade
eliminates one of the weakest links of the ADDS infrastructure that has
been responsible for numerous outages over the lifetime of ADDS. We
expect the reliability to be greatly enhanced by these changes as well
as convey new information to users.
- Dec 19, 2001
There are new versions of the METARs and TAFs
Java Tools which extend the
regions of the display to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and Asia. To
see all the new regions, choose either the METARs or TAFs Java
Tool and, once there, click on the "Overview"
button.
- Dec 19, 2001

hardware is expected to be more reliable than the older, aging
hardware as well as provide more room for growth and increased
speed.
