Flight Path Tool

Provides all ADDS weather products in a single interactive display. Slices through 4D datasets horizontally at a flight level, vertically along a flight path, and in time. Includes meteorograms at surface points.

Text Data Server

The Text Data Server enhances and complements the ADDS web site by providing flexible and queryable access to real-time METARs, PIREPs, TAFs, and AIR/SIGMETs data.

Overview

Weather stations from around the world report weather conditions every hour using a data format referred to as METAR, a contraction of MÉTéorologique Aviation Régulièrea (believed to originate from the French phrase message d’observation météorologique pour l’aviation régulière). These data are centrally collected and distributed by the U.S. NWS (and other countries' equivalent weather organizations).

METAR images are generated every 5 minutes and are available for most regions with a data overlay that depicts temperature, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, and any reported weather conditions (i.e. rain, snow, fog, etc.). Symbols are employed when necessary to reduce clutter on the plot.
